Marine Turtles

The Tatô Program for the protection of marine turtles in Sao Tomé and Príncipe is an initiative of local NGO MARAPA (Sea Environment and Small-scale Fisheries). It consists in the monitoring of the nesting by female marine turtles on the beaches of São Tomé island between September and April, follow-up of the incubation and information of the public about the importance of the conservation of these threatened species. In 2012, MARAPA and Praia Inhame Ecolodge joined their efforts to allow the implementation of the Tatô Program on the beaches of Cabana and Inhame in Porto Alegre, in the Caué district.
